Pakistan as well as many middle eastern countries is where women’s participation in sports has been relatively restricted due to cultural and societal norms. Not all the issues lie on funding for women’s sports, but the incidents of gender-based discrimination and harassment is still an alive issue discouraging women from participating in physical activities and sports. Yes---you have read it right, even if in this time of history, there are still some territories suffer from anti-women anti-women attitudes.
What if I tell you a Pakistani women have recently been on the road to break some of these barriers and defying stereotypes and expectations to become an inspiration to many girls living in similar challenging situations? What if I tell you there is one Pakistani woman who has all recently been at the forefront of improving gender equality, sport equity, women empowerment and with much more importance of all, human rights through launching volleyball programs and physical activity-focused projects. What if I tell you that she has received some international rewards but neither Pakistan’s volleyball federation nor even relevant sport ministries inside the country have taken a blind bit of notice to her amazing life-changing projects. Well, Misbah Hina, a former pakistanian volleyball player and sport activist with MSc in sport management is the one we just talked about, who has recently joined us through an interview to share her journey towards women empowerment projects in her country---Pakistan.
